Engineers at England's Warwick University say it's the first racing-standard car built entirely from sustainable and recycled products.

[Dr James Meredith, University Of Warwick]:"We have incorporated carrots into the steering wheel, we have incorporated potatoes into wing mirrors and we have managed to incorporate soy bean oil foam into the seat. We have also got many other natural fibres such as flax and hemp in the bodywork as well as recycled carbon fibre and some recycled bottles which make up the resin in the composites".

The racer is even powered by biofuel made of waste products from chocolate factories.

But the car is more than just a green gimmick -- the team say the racer will soon be reaching speeds of up to 160 miles per hour.

Engineers like Steve Maggs say they want to prove that going green could also mean going fast.

But despite recent efforts by the world's racing community to prove its green credentials, this eco car won't have the chance to prove itself on the race course any time soon.

It's chocolate-based fuel is a little too unusual to meet current racing regulations.
