有害動物移除服務公司Iguana Solutions的基爾戈爾（Jessica Kilgore）對「WPLG local 10」頻道表示，她已經收集了「數百磅」的墜落蜥蜴。 她回憶道，上次寒流來襲時，她在海灘上發現了好多凍死的鬣蜥，估計是寒冷的海風將它們從樹上吹落的，預計這一次的數量會更多。
通常情況下，佛州法律禁止民眾自行移動這些鬣蜥，但今年情況比較嚴重，佛羅里達州魚類和野生動物保育委員會（FWC）決定在全州設立臨時性的收集點。

對於這一現象，FWC在一份聲明中解釋，當氣溫下降並持續到接近冰點或以下時，綠鬣蜥會進入蟄伏狀態，暫時失去肌肉控制，看起來像「凍住了」，有時甚至會從樹上掉下來。
隨著氣溫回升，這些鬣蜥會恢復正常，它很快就會爬回樹上。
