西洋文學大家、戲劇巨擘莎士比亞（William Shakespeare）於1616年4月23日逝世，2016年剛好是他離世滿四百周年。
莎士比亞的父母都不識字，而他是作家、演員、也是一個成功的商人，他的出身讓他在現實人生中展現了洞悉生命的睿智。莎士比亞的兒女都沒有傳下後代，然而他的文學作品閃閃發光的智慧名言卻在人間流傳。
散文家托馬斯‧卡萊爾（Thomas Carlyle）說：莎士比亞是最偉大的知識份子。然而更可貴的是，上天賦予莎士比亞的道德天賦，洞察道德在人間、在生命中的至高地位。莎士比亞這樣說：
