追蹤網站「Downdetector」顯示，Facebook（FB）與及旗下群交媒體Instagram（IG）和WhatsApp，昨（4日）晚上約11時45分，紛紛開始傳出故障問題，影響全球數千萬用戶。除香港地區外，追蹤網站顯示，美國和歐洲等人口稠密地區的社群媒體也出現「死機」， 用戶試圖打開FB均只會看到一行訊息：「Sorry, something went wrong. We're working on it and we'll get it fixed as soon as we can.」（出了問題，我們正在處理，將儘快修復。）

相隔約7小時左右，至今（5日）早上大約 6 點左右，Fb、IG及WhatsApp陸續開始回復正常運作。Facebook 其後在twitter發聲明致歉，表示非常感謝用戶的耐心，並宣布「它們已重新 online」。

多間外媒估計，今次故障起因是 DNS (Domain Name Server) 出現問題，故障屬全球問題，不限地域。@
