每年2月，美國北加州著名的優勝美地（Yosemite）國家公園會出現一幕「火瀑布」（firefall）奇景，該公園的馬尾瀑布（Horsetail Fall）在陽光照耀下，宛若橙色熔岩從懸崖傾瀉而下，形成一幅獨一無二的畫面。

據CNN報道，日落時分，優勝美地「火瀑布」的水流好似炙熱的熔岩一樣，從埃爾卡皮坦山陡峭的花崗岩崖面飛奔而下。這種由大自然主導的魔術奇景在每年2月出現，每次只會持續幾分鐘，每晚吸引數百名遊客前來觀賞。

美國國家公園服務發言人Scott Gediman表示，今年因為多雨雪，瀑布規模比以往更大。他說：「在過去幾年裏，由於社交媒體的傳播，瀑布獲得了人氣。人們從世界各地前來欣賞。」

I will make this the last Firefall photograph of this year. Promise not to talk about this event until next year. Today, as I was going through my photo library for an unpublished Firefall pic to send to a magazine, I realized this was one of my personal favorites from that evening. No idea why I didn’t share it the first time. This is the Horse tail waterfall in the Yosemite National Park. 1973年，已故著名攝影師羅威爾首次拍到「火瀑布」的彩色照片。自此，每年前往該國家公園拍攝「火瀑布」的攝影師變得越來越多。

對攝影愛好者來說，如果想捕捉美好景緻，公園網站建議，最好的觀賞地點是酋長巨石（El Capitan）野餐區，但需要確保在公園人潮擁擠前就抵達該處，選好欣賞地點。

Gediman表示，一些攝影愛好者在早上9時就找好地點，等待捕捉夕陽西下的鏡頭。基於天氣情況，他還建議遊客攜帶食物、水、衣服和輪胎鏈。

位於內華達山脈的馬尾瀑布，坐落在埃爾多拉多縣一保護區內，總高度超過2,000英尺（609.6米），水流從近500英尺（約合152米）的高度傾瀉而下。遊客可以從美國50號公路附近的「雙子橋」（Twin Bridges）北部出發，步行來到馬尾瀑布。

這個瀑布是依靠酋長岩上的雪山融水為源的，所以並非一年四季都存在。酋長岩上的雪一般在每年的12月和1月融化。
